Personal Data Assistant, PDA You can use a PDA with Salon Iris beauty salon software. PDA stands for "Personal Data Assistant" and is typically a small hand-held computer with a touch screen.
There two main types of PDA devices: 1) Pocket PC's and 2) Palm Pilots. The PDA software will run on almost any PocketPC that is running Windows Mobile Edition version 2002 or later. It will not run on a Palm Pilot.
You can send your appointments to your PDA. Upcoming appointments and the client's information can be viewed.
Common brands of Pocket PC's are Dell and HP. Some popular models are Dell Axim and HP Ipaq
 Overview Salon Iris ltd Products now have the ability to transfer upcoming appointment information to a Personal Data Assistant. This web page will walk you through the first time set-up. You can send a copy of your appointments to your PDA and view the following items: • Upcoming appointments date and time • Services and products on each upcoming appointment • Grand total price for the appointment • Quantity, price, and discounts for each service • Employee that performs each service • Details on the client who is scheduled for the appointment including:
Client’s address
Home, mobile, and work phone numbers
Comments
History
Pop-up reminders
Balance .
Compatibility The PDA software is compatible with most PDAs running Windows 2002, 2003. It will not run on a Palm Pilot.
Connection Type The PDA needs to connect to your computer via a serial or USB connection and be able to transfer data using Microsoft’s Active Sync. Active Sync is a free product and is usually included with the software that came with your PDA.
Set-up
Before you begin; ensure that you have updated your version of Salon Iris to Version 5.0.8 or later, after updating open to the program to run your software:
1)Connect your PDA to your computer using the cables and software provided with your PDA. 2)Install Microsoft’s Active Sync and create a new partnership by following the first time set-up instructions. Select the default options during the set-up. 3)Run Active Sync. Select Options from the Tools pull-down menu.
4)Put a check mark by Pocket Access and press OK. It does not matter what other items are selected.
5) Select Options from the Tools pull-down menu again.
6) Press Settings. It does not matter what other items are selected.
7) Press the Add button on the following screen:
8)Navigate to the directory where your software is installed. Normally, your software is installed on your local disk (C:\) in the “Program Files” folder.
Example:
C:\Program Files\Salon Iris\
Select the file named PDA.mdb and press the Open button.
9)Press OK on the following screen.
10) Press OK on the next screen that appears, titled, “Database Synchronisation Settings.”
11) Press OK on the next screen, titled, “Options.” You are done configuring Active Sync.
12) MyAppointments is the program that runs on your PDA and lets you view your appointments. You can install MyAppointments from the Internet or from the program CD. To install MyAppointments on your PDA, make sure your PDA is plugged in to your computer, then:
13)Install MyAppointments on your PDA. This can be found on your Salon Iris CD or download here. from the internet you will be prompted to Save or Open the file. Select Open. After the download completes, the installation will begin. Follow the set-up instructions. To install MyAppointments, from the CD Place your software CD into your CD drive. start the main application (i.e. Salon Iris) and select Transfer to PDA from the Tools pull-down menu.
14)Press the First Time Install button and follow the prompts.

Set-up is now complete.
Usage Once a day, or more often depending on your needs, you will want to synchronise (transfer) your PDA with your computer. When you do this, the upcoming appointments on your computer will be copied to your PDA.
Here is how to transfer your appointments to your PDA
1)Start the main program on your computer (i.e. Salon Iris) 2)Select Transfer to PDA from the Tools pull-down menu. 3)Select the appropriate employee(s) and number of days. Press OK. 4)Connect your PDA to the computer. Active Sync should start automatically and transfer your appointments to you PDA. 5)To view your appointment, run the program called MyAppointments on your PDA.
